Orlando is one of the major cities in Florida, and is the county seat of Orange County, Florida. According to the latest census report, it is the sixth largest city in Florida. It is also the principal city of Greater Orlando. The Orlando-Kissimmee MSA is Florida's third-largest metropolitan area, behind Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach and Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater. University of Central Florida, which is the second largest university in Florida and has the 6th largest campus in the nation is housed in Orlando.

Orlando is renowned for the scores of tourist attractions in the area, especially the nearby Walt Disney World Resort. An estimated 52 million tourists visit Orlando a year. Orlando has the second largest number of hotel rooms in the country (after Las Vegas, Nevada). It is also amongst the busiest American cities for conferences and conventions with the Orange County Convention Center, the country's second largest in square footage. It is also famous for its wide array of golf courses, with numerous courses available for any level of golfer. Regardless of being several miles away from the main tourist attractions, downtown Orlando is undergoing major redevelopment with a number of residential and commercial towers.


Florida experiences less severe winters than many parts of the country, so you can expect to spend less on winter clothing and heating fuel. Otherwise, living costs are similar to other states. In the southern half of the state the prices are higher than in the northern. The best source of all for Florida moving information is the local area Chamber of Commerce. Every county has at least one Chamber of Commerce and more popular areas might have one for every major area within the county. Use this information wisely, and you can save some of your hard earned money and might use it to take a vacation....maybe..... to another area of your new "Home State". There is plenty to see and explore!


Located in the southeastern U.S., Florida is technically approximately 100 miles north of the Tropics. Sunshine is amongst the state's most important resources, which attracts millions of vacationers annually, making tourism the number one industry in the state. Orlando's pleasant weather, affordable housing, and location at the center of one of the country's fastest growing markets, have helped make the city a booming town. New residents are attracted by the city's striking setting among the inland lakes and citrus groves and by the short drive from the coastal beaches. Increasing numbers of manufacturers and distributors have relocated to the city to take advantage of its mushrooming work force, and major attractions like Walt Disney World, Sea World of Florida, and Universal Studios Florida bring millions of visitors annually. New industries such as film production, military simulation and training, and various technologies are adding to the booming local economy.


It is now official that Orlando will be building a new performing arts center, Orlando Arena, and a refurbishment of the Florida Citrus Bowl after the final vote was complete on July 27, 2007. The final results were 5 to 2, in favor of the 1.1 billion dollar project. Its symbol is the fountain of Lake Eola. Buddy Dyer is the current mayor.


Florida Taxes – With regard to the tax burden placed on residents, Florida ranks low. The Tax Foundation research organization ranks Florida among the lowest tax states (Florida ranks #45 among the 50 states in 2004; only five states have a lower tax burden) based on income, property and other state and local tax collections.
